Is there a minimum age, one must reach to have laser hair removal?
There is no minimum age for laser hair removal. However, parental consent is required for patients under 18 years of age as the lasers used are 'medical grade' and the procedure is considered to be a 'medical treatment'.
How does IPL hair removal differ from laser hair removal?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) devices emit a wider range of wavelengths, and collateral cellular damage is more common. When laser hair removal is performed at Facelab, a medical-grade laser is used emitting a single wavelength of energy targeting only the necessary cells required for hair growth reduction.

Facial Hair
Laser hair removal is a great way to eliminate unwanted facial hair for good. Unlike plucking, waxing, shaving, threading, or depilatory creams and other topicals, laser facial hair removal when performed at Facelab is permanent.
Body Hair
Just like facial hair, at Facelab unwanted body hair can be permanently removed. It will require a number of sessions, but more information about this can be found out in a consultation or over the phone.

At Facelab, we achieve optimal results with strict treatment protocols that are customised to individual needs. Treatment is carried out based on the specific stage of hair growth. Ideal candidates for laser hair removal are people with light coloured skin tones who have dark hair in the active phase of the hair growth cycle.
Laser hair removal treatment always needs to be repeated. Hair follicles grow at different rates, and they are not all in the same phase of growth at the time of treatment. There are four main stages of hair growth, and it is the follicles in the active growth phase (Anagen) that are most susceptible to laser energy. Anywhere from 3 to 8 treatments may be necessary to capture each follicle in its growth phase and shut down the follicle forever.Preparation and experience ensure patient safety
With laser hair removal, preparation is vital to ensure the best results. Before treatment, it is essential to avoid plucking or waxing for at least two weeks. The hair should then be shaved, and the area cleaned and disinfected.
Occasionally, we perform a 'laser test patch' before treating our patients with laser hair removal. The test patch allows when necessary, the Facelab clinician to make small adjustments to the laser’s power parameters to achieve the best results with minimal risk.
Facelab's Nd:YAG laser emits a particular wavelength of energy that targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair shaft and follicle. This energy is absorbed by the pigment, which causes a slight increase in temperature that destroys both the hair follicle and it's associated stem cell. All of this takes place while protecting the surrounding cells where the melanin concentration is lower.
