Brunswick Clinic

The Facelab principle clinicians have dental surgery backgrounds and putting them in good stead to assess the appropriateness of this procedure for you. Many factors need to be considered during the examination and consultation process including, age, sex, race, health of teeth and gums, patient weight etc.

We all know that with age and body tissue maturation, people loose tissue volume, especially in the face, so cheek fat removal is really only suitable for people from middle age onwards and careful consideration must be given to the likelihood of further natural face volume loss with age. People who choose to undergo this procedure when they are too young and then experience age related tissue volume loss, may end up looking gaunt and older than what they actually are.

Cheek fat removal in most cases is a straightforward procedure carried out with a local anaesthetic in the treatment room with a mild oral sedative if required. Following the administration of local anaesthetic, a small incision is made inside the mouth (so no visible scarring results). The cheek fat is carefully located and easily removed with tweezers and scissors. Once removed, the cheek fat will not return. A few small dissolving sutures are placed and patients are sent home with antibiotics, pain relief tablets and a mouthwash.

The procedure normally results in some mild swelling, however patients should be able to return to normal activities within 1 to 2 days. It is important to avoid hot food and drinks as well as acidic foods for a few days.

Few complications do exist with Cheek Fat Removal treatment , however the more serious ones are extremely rare.
